One of the things I love about fashion is the constant evolution. No two seasons are the same. No two collections are the same. It’s constantly in motion. For the last couple of seasons I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished that my mother had never thrown out those bell bottoms, stacked heels or suede fringe bag. While the 60s and 70s have permeated runways recently – there is always a FRESH take on the looks and this coming fall season is no different. That’s the evolution I love. It’s in the reinterpretation that the art of fashion lies.

The fall 2015 fashion trends are enthralling – still full of the nostalgia of decades past yet translated for the modern woman. Let’s take a dive into some of these trends that were recently showcased at the San Antonio Neiman Marcus Fall Media Trend Presentation styled by Xitlalt Herrera-Salazar.

fall 2015 fashion trends

Folkloric:

Back in the late 60s/early 70s folk fashion made a major play when colors, prints and fabrics brought together cultures from around the world. Designers such as Yves Saint Laurent led the trend as a stark contrast against the ultra mod lines of the era. And once again, folkloric is going mainstream. Bring on the colors! Bring on the prints!

Layer on the necklaces. Throw on the bangles (and on BOTH wrists no less).

Notice the native motifs and handcrafted touches are greatly appreciated.

fringe handbag

And there is that fringe handbag ladies! I have to be honest, fringe will always be IN to me.

I want to take a moment to focus on a shoe trend that’s going to be big this fall…. the midi boot. It’s cut about mid-calf so definitely taller than an ankle boot but below the knee. Try a pair with a midi skirt for a little flash of leg.

Wide Leg Trousers: This was one of my favorite looks of the entire show. I was actually in Neimans a couple days before pulling wardrobe for a photo shoot and I pulled these exact Alice & Olivia trousers. The 70s are still infiltrating the catwalks as flares kick skinny jeans to the curb.

fur vest

Fun Furs: Random fashion fact… did you know that the FF in Fendi’s iconic logo actually stands for Fun Fur? Karl Lagerfeld had it right back then and now… fun fur is BACK! Add a bit as a statement piece or a tad as an embellishment for an accessory.

fall 2015 victorian trend

Victorian Age: A curtsy to the nineteenth-century queen was also prominent as lace, ruffles and high collared necklines all make a grand and elegant appearance. You might end up doing a double take as your grandmother’s brocade curtains now seem to be a stunning, voluminous skirt adorning a model. I adore the richness of this trend.

Reds: Red has definitely been having a big year as Marsala was officially named the 2015 Pantone Color of the Year. Whether you prefer a more shocking fire engine red or earthy bordeaux…red is the color to embrace this fall. If the above look is a little too daring for you try a nice red lipstick and ease your way in.

winter white

Winter White: Another trend continuing from spring/summer into fall/winter is whites. So chic and classy – there is just something special about a good white on white look. This is certainly a trend that can be very wearable. Don’t worry if your whites don’t match and keep a Tide stick handy.
