The morning of my David Yurman interview I woke up immediately juggling emotions of excitement and nervousness thinking about sitting down with the world-renown jeweler. I had my outfit pressed and ready to go (I’d been planning it for weeks), meticulously applied my makeup and then, of course, accessorized with every piece of his jewelry that I owned. After weeks of preparation pouring through other interviews he’s done – I printed out my questions and headed to Neiman Marcus.
Sitting waiting for him to come in I anxiously read through my questions, trying to appear confident as I assisted my photographer and videographer in setting up. I took a deep breathe as my friend, Xitlalt Herrera-Salazar, the PR Manager for Neiman Marcus San Antonio, escorted him into the room and tried to not begin gushing praises.
He welcomed me with a gentle smile that radiated warmth from his eyes and immediately admired my dress asking me where it was from making me feel comfortable and at home. You would think an iconic designer such as David Yurman would have a certain amount of arrogance about him but, in fact, he has a grandfatherly ease complemented with an artistic intelligence and eloquence that leaves you in awe.
It was one of those interviews that make you wish you could spend the entire day just delving in to the mind of this creative genius. While, I couldn’t spend the day with him I am beyond grateful for the precious time that I did receive and excited to share a video of those personal moments as well as portions from the panel discussion on his first book, DAVID YURMAN: CABLE, hosted by my The Society Diaries Magazine Editor-in-Chief, Lance Avery Morgan.
