They say each major city in Texas has a “personality.” Dallas with its go big or go home mentality (the higher the hair, the closer to God right?!) and don’t forget all those urban cowboys. Houston with its oil tycoons and East Texas accents. Austin with its “liberal hippies” and “Keep Austin Weird” slogans. While many of these are packed full of stereotypes – the cities of Texas are definitely each unique and I’ve had the pleasure of living in almost every one of them.

While I have a love of all these Texas cities there is one that is dear to my heart… San Antonio. This is the Texas city that I call home. Not only was I born in this great city but I have lived here on three different occasions (the latest for the past 10 years). San Antonio is special. It’s the 7th largest city in the U.S. but everyone will tell you it feels like a small town. It’s culturally rich and I always say right now is one of the best times to live in San Antonio as it blossoms and expands every day. The people are incredibly friendly, the tacos unbeatable and the margaritas are flowing. And right in the middle of the Alamo City is our crown jewel… the San Antonio River Walk.

The River Walk is the great treasure of our incredible city and is the #1 tourist attraction in the State of Texas bringing amazing economic opportunities for our town and state. And this year I am beyond honored to be nominated to serve on the Royal Court of the San Antonio River Walk Association and will have the opportunity to campaign for Queen of the River Walk giving me an opportunity to give back to this city I love so much.

WHAT IS THE SAN ANTONIO RIVER WALK ASSOCIATION?

The San Antonio River Walk’s (SARWA) mission is to Promote, Protect and Preserve the Crown Jewel of San Antonio. Each year the San Antonio River Walk Association nominates select women and men to campaign from September 1, 2018 – February 25, 2019 to, not only serve as ambassadors of the River Walk, but to also raise money to fulfill their mission and provide dozens of free events on the River Walk to support our local businesses and economy. The SARWA also works to educate local and state leaders on issues affecting the local tourism industry and the River Walk.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO ME?

As I mentioned, I have called this city home for over 10 years and this is where we have chosen to raise our family. Living a life of service, giving and gratitude has been of great importance to me. As many of you know, two years ago I suffered a stroke and subsequently underwent an implant to place a closure device over a hole in my heart (adding to a chest full of pacemaker wires). Since that day two years ago – I have made it a daily goal to give back to others and believe this campaign is another opportunity to assist this city that I love.
