Back in January of this year I came down with the worst case of bronchitis I’ve ever had in my life! The coughing was so bad I literally felt like a lung might come up. And sure enough, I coughed so hard that one day I felt a searing pain on my left rib cage and injured a muscle in it. I suffered through the pain for 2 and half MONTHS. It was excruciating. I couldn’t take a deep breath without it hurting, much less workout or lift the kids. I was desperate.
After speaking with a nurse friend of mine she suggested that I try Cryotherapy. I’d heard of it before but have to admit… I was kind of skeptical. But what the heck…why not try it!
And guess what lovelies?! After one month of Cryotherapy at Cryo SA I can happily tell you my pain is COMPLETELY GONE! I’m a true believer now and want to share my experience with cryotherapy with you in full!

I know a lot of people are super nervous about trying cryotherapy (I was too so I get it). But I promise – it’s actually SO easy! Let me walk you through the process.
Wholebody Cryotherapy Process:
When you visit Cryo SA for the first time there is a waiver you will complete and they’ll check your blood pressure (they make sure it’s not too high as cryotherapy can raise it).
Following the completion of that they will take you into the cryo room where you will get undressed. You can wear your undergarments as long as they don’t have wires in them (ladies – I recommend bringing a wireless sports bra). They will also give you a pair of socks, warm booties, mittens and heavy gloves to wear.
Then you’ll open the door, step in to the machine and ring a little doorbell to tell the attendant that you are ready. They will then come in, raise you up so your head is outside of the “tube” and get the machine started.
As you can see the temperatures get pretty cold but it’s only for a maximum of 3 minutes (your first time you will actually do 2.5 minutes)! In fact, the temperatures don’t stay at the lowest the entire time. It gives a “puff” of cold air and then it warms up a bit and then “puffs” again. And the ENTIRE TIME the attendant will be in the room talking to you. I like to kind of walk in place in the machine while I talk and it makes it go by super fast. Plus, all of the people that work at Cryo SA are SOOO incredibly nice so before you know it you will be just getting a quick catch up with a friend!
Then after your 3 minutes are complete the machine turns off and you are able to get out and get dressed again. You’ll find that you warm up super fast.
I promise – I’m not good with the cold at all but it’s really very easy! And if you are a reader of mine I’ll even meet you at Cryo SA if you need some support and cheer you on! Just message me!
What are the benefits of Wholebody Cryotherapy?
There are SOOOO many benefits of cryotherapy (celebrities and professional athletes do cryotherapy on a regular basis). In response to the low temperature the body constricts peripheral tissues sending blood from the skin surface, muscle tissue, and surrounding joint space to the core to protect core temperature. As the blood travels to the core it passes through the cardiovascular system where it is cleansed of toxins and supplied with oxygen, nutrients, and enzymes. Once the participant exits the cryo chamber, the body immediately begins vasodilation, returning the enriched blood to peripheral tissues that have been cleansed of toxins. The process of restoration continues once you step out of the cryo chamber and over the next 48 hours you will experience reduced pain and inflammation, and increased energy levels. Recovery from strenuous workouts and injuries are shortened and improved.
What benefits did I see personally from Wholebody Cryotherapy?
My results have been incredible! I now have made cryotherapy a part of my weekly health/fitness routine and I can’t imagine ever not doing it. Here are some specific results that I can personally attest to:
- Chronic Pain Relief: My ribs are COMPLETELY healed. Around my 4th cryotherapy session I noticed the pain begin to slowly decrease. Following each appointment it continued to lessen until now it is totally GONE! I recommend doing cryo at least 3 times per week.
- Energy: Cryotherapy for me is an instant energy boost. I’ll have higher energy all day making me feel positive and great! Additionally, when I workout following cryotherapy I typically have a much higher performance than normal.
- Muscle Recovery: I do a lot of cardio (particulary cycling) so my legs get exhausted. Cryotherapy helps my muscles recover much faster.
- Weight Loss: The weeks that I consistently did cryotherapy at least 3 times per week I lost weight. I’ve now lost 5 lbs without making a change to my diet or workout.
- Immune System Boost: One week I was fighting a cold that I caught from the kids and I think cryo really helped me not get as sick as I would have gotten.
I think you can tell I’m a huge believer and proponent and I wouldn’t go anywhere besides Cryo SA located off TPC Parkway and 281.
This is Selby, one of the owners of Cryo SA, who I can now say is a dear friend of mine. Cryo SA was started by Selby and her husband (who is equally as fabulous)! I loved that it’s a family owned and operated business.
The other great thing about Cryo SA is they also offer Normatec Compression AND Infrared Sauna. Whenever I have extra time I like to do the Normatec Compression on my legs after cycling. The NormaTec PULSE Recovery Systems are dynamic compression devices designed for recovery and rehab. They use compressed air to massage your limbs, mobilize fluid, and speed recovery with their patented NormaTec Pulse Massage Pattern.
I haven’t had the opportunity to try the sauna yet but definitely plan on it soon so follow on my Instastories (I did regular live coverage throughout my cryo process on instastories as well)! Their Sunlighten infrared sauna uses infrared light (experienced as heat) to warm the body. It works to raise the core body temperature to produce a deep, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level where the majority of toxins reside. Benefits include: detoxification, stress-reduction, weight loss (burn up to 600 calories), regulate blood pressure, pain relief, muscle recovery, and more.
I’m so glad that I tried cryotherapy and I hope you will too! Visit http://cryo-sa.com/ to learn more.
