75f17f4cf4b2ce1a04a153bd15bc2b6333da5656da70496666 Two months ago Hurricane Harvey battered Texas as one of the most devastating hurricanes on record. Over 50 inches of rain fell in some areas displacing thousands as their homes were buried under the unrelenting flood waters. Nine weeks later families are still without homes, tens of thousands are living in hotel rooms and there is an estimated $73.5 BILLION in economic loss.

But there is also a silent victim of Hurricane Harvey – desperately needing your assistance… the animals. Sweet furry faces just like the one below. There are over 300 animals in need of assistance right here in San Antonio and I hope you will take a moment to learn how you can help animals affected by Hurricane Harvey through an organization called San Antonio Pet’s Alive (SAPA).

San Antonio Pet’s Alive is a life-saving organization that solely rescues dogs and cats selected for euthanasia at the San Antonio City Shelter. They save these animals after all other options have been exhausted with a vision to make San Antonio a No Kill Community.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

1. ADOPT

You can visit San Antonio Pet’s Alive here to view all current animals available for adoption. Out of the 8-10 million cats and dogs that entered shelters last year, more than HALF were euthanized. This statistic makes me ill. There are so many animals available including a variety of breeds, ages and more so you can find your perfect forever friend. Every adoption includes:

  • Spay/neuter surgery
  • Current vaccinations
  • Microchip
  • Heartworm and flea preventative
  • One month of free pet insurance

2. FOSTER:

Hurricane Harvey filled up shelters so SAPA is now in need more than ever for short-term foster homes for dogs and long-term foster homes for cats. Not sure what Fostering is? Fostering is something that you can do to save lives! A foster home is a temporary living situation for pets in their program while they are awaiting placement in a permanent home. Foster families provide shelter, food, care and love. The number of animals they can save depends entirely on the number of people who open their homes and hearts to foster them.

You can apply to be a foster parent here.

Love this Tori! The animals often get over looked. Shelters are full to the max! I know of a few bloggers up north that are fostering dogs that were transported out of state after Harvey! It takes a village for sure!
