You take your seat – eagerly glancing around you as the lights begin to dim and conversation slowly quiets. Everyone turns their attention to the stage as the music begins to envelope you – the notes wrapping gently around you. The lights rise sending chills across your skin in anticipation. And then… in pure grace and ease the ballerinas flutter across the stage. In that exact moment you are pulled in to a new world of grandeur and beauty.

When I go to the ballet I can’t help but experience this rush of emotions over and over again. It doesn’t matter how many times I go – I find myself in awe as I am transported into the performance. I think all little girls at one time or another imagined themselves as a ballerina. Seeing the ballet evokes those memories and feelings in me making it seem like my girlhood dreams are coming to life before me.

On February 17-19 the Ballet San Antonio will be presenting one of the most beloved love stories of all time… Sleeping Beauty (and, of course, I had to be in the audience). This is one of my favorite stories and I admit I’ve watching the Disney movie more times than I can count. I have planned a special day with my mom and aunt to attend the Saturday show and am eagerly awaiting the performance which will include choreography by Willy Shives after Marius Petipa and music by Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky.

If you are looking for a belated Galentine’s Day or perhaps a fun mother/daughter outing this performance is sure to help you create fun memories together. I hope you will join me as Aurora finds her prince!
