I’ll just be honest with you – I have the most flat, straight hair EVER! If you look a couple pictures down that is literally my hair after just blow drying it. Straight as a board – and pretty much lifeless. It’s the bane of my existence to add volume to my hair. But I have finally found a tool to help me add volume AND I can do it incredibly fast!
I have been a longtime ghd fan and actually reviewed one of their stylers two years ago showing how you can curl your hair with flat irons (see post here). Since then that flat iron has been my absolute favorite – and I’ve used it time and time again. So when ghd contacted me to try out their newest ghd Platinum styler I couldn’t reply YES fast enough!
One of the things that I love doing with my styler is adding volume (with a slight wave). So I thought I’d do a post showing you how to add volume to your hair using a flat iron!
This is really the best flat iron I’ve ever tried. I particularly love it because it doesn’t compromise the health of my hair like many flat irons do. What makes this styler different is the heat is delivered evenly and constantly using their patented tri-zone® technology (meaning no more hot spots or sudden heat blasts). There are six sensors, three in each plate, and the styler is proven to be kinder to your hair color as well as reducing hair breakage by over 50% and increasing shine by 20%. It retails for $249 but is currently on sale for $199.
Now let’s get to this tutorial. First blow dry your hair and allow your styler to heat it (it heats up in no time).
Once your hair is dry pin back the section of hair that you are not working on so it’s not in the way.
On the section that you are working on give it a light spray of hairspray (be sure and not spray too much).
Now take a section of hair, open your styler and wrap the hair around one side of the styler. Try to get as close to your roots as possible.
Now that your hair is wrapped around lightly press the styler together so that it clamps the hair LOOSELY and then gradually slide the styler out of your hair as the “curl” unwinds. Do this until you have completed all sections of hair. Note: we are not wrapping the hair very tight which is going to add more VOLUME VS. CURL. For curl just wrap it tighter and squeeze the styler more.
When you finish fluff your hair with your fingers and then spray over with hairspray. Super easy and it gives a really natural voluminous wave without looking curly.
