Pre-K. “How could he already be in pre-k,” I asked myself as I held my firstborn’s hand walking through the hallway to his classroom. I kept sneaking glances down at him all dressed up, proudly wearing the backpack he picked out himself, grinning ear-to-ear as the excitement bubbled out of him.
He’s growing up so fast and I can’t slow it down. This is only going to get harder I realize. These children are our hearts and every year us mommies gently hand over our hearts to others on their first day of school. Trusting their care to others. Hoping for their minds to develop and trying to celebrate as they begin exploring their independence yet wanting to shield them in our arms.
We reach the door to his room and his teacher welcomes him by name with a smile. I feel his arms tighten slightly around my leg yet I can see him trying to hide his fear and mask it with bravery. I lean down and give him a kiss on the cheek and tell him I love him and to be a good boy. He tells me he will and loves me too and then it happens. He looks around the room, takes a breath and walks confidently away from me to sit in his seat. The big boy in him takes over. There goes my heart.
And my heart was the most stylish boy in that classroom as he was all decked out in Carter’s! One of my favorite things to do is back-to-school shopping. I know a lot of moms find this to be a stressful time but I really enjoyed it this year with Luke. I turned it in to a special day for just the two of us. We enjoyed lunch together and then went to our local Carter’s store. Carter’s is such a great option for back-to-school because you can get so many great quality outfits and fantastic prices (which is definitely needed since these kids are growing like weeds right now).
We selected a couple outfits that were fresh, modern and could be worn as coordinated sets or separately to give us more looks. If you scroll to the bottom of this post you can shop all outfits.
I just adore this first outfit and he looks like such a big boy! Carter’s had a bunch of cute pull-overs with different graphics and sayings. I read this one to him and he told me, “I want the awesome shirt!” I paired it with a blue button-up that he can also wear by itself and some jeans which he was desperately in need of.
Luke immediately selected the camo shirt in this outfit. He calls it his, “hunting shirt.” I mixed it up by styling it with some cream twill pants which he can wear with all kinds of looks.
As you can see we had so much fun shopping at Carter’s and can’t wait to go back! You can also enjoy a special shopping trip with your little one. I’ve included a coupon for you below and they also have a great sale going on right now for Labor Day!
