This past week I spent some much needed time at the coast with two girlfriends of mine and their children who are the same age as Luke. The days were full of rambunctious toddlers chasing each other, endless giggles and squeals, as well as a bit of whines and tears from stolen toys and sharing disputes. All of which resulted in joyful moms, exasperated moms and finally EXHAUSTED moms.
Some of my favorite moments were at the end of each day when we’d finally gotten the three minis down (no easy feat). Then we’d all curl up on the couches with the lights turned down low and began quietly catching up on life which seems to be in the fast lane at all times.
As I sat there watching these two women who I’d known since before babies when we were young and fresh out of college, then newly married; I was struck at what pretty darn awesome women we’d become! We’d all been through variations of the same life and experiences. Each becoming the rock of our families and trying to be the best mothers that we could be.
It was so relieving to be able to talk with them about struggles and ask for mommy advice without the worry of being judged or criticized. And while each of us may not be the best mom out there nor do we have all the answers to raising children…you could still tell that our children are the light of our lives. Those three sweet babies will never lack for love, a shoulder to cry on or arms to wrap around them. And, not only do they each have a mommy who loves them, they have more than one. Because we all see that light shining brightly from each of them.
