It’s Sunday and I’m sitting on my mom’s comfy couch with a velvet blanket wrapped around me as I try to keep the morning chill away. The early sun is streaming through a large wall of windows next to me and predicts a beautiful day. There is something special about my mom’s house. It’s comfort, safety, familiarity all rolled up in to one. I always feel like a young girl when I’m there even though I now have a child of my own.

Luke’s playing around the fire place with his cars talking to himself as his little imagination runs wild. My grandfather, recently released from the hospital after a fall that broke his pelvis and hip, is rocking in a chair observing Luke. My stepfather splits between chatting with me and getting on the floor to play with Luke. My mom can’t sit still of course….here she comes with a warm cup of green tea for me since she knows I can’t drink coffee. It’s a safe zone. A place where I’ll always have love and support. It’s a place that I can always turn to for help. It’s a place where there will always be Dr. Peppers in the back fridge and a new toy for Luke. It’s everything my mom’s home should be.

The morning was complete as my stepfather got out his guitar and began playing some hymns. Then a moment came that made me just stop and listen. My Papa joined him in singing, “You Are My Sunshine,” in his quiet voice with a smile on his face (Papa Singing Video). Yes, this is my mother’s house. I wish it could always be like this.

Is your mom’s home like this? What’s your favorite part about your parent’s house?

A few random photos from my recent shoot with my friend Jordan Glazener at Sunday Sky Photography.

This Mom is VERY Thankful for ALL her blessings, especially for the words written in this blog by a wonderful daughter.

“Having someone to love is FAMILY. Having somewhere to go is HOME. Having both is a BLESSING!”

I love retreating to my Mom’s home. I still make her “cuddle me” on the couch – just like when I was little – only now we have a Petite to squeeze in between us!

My parents live about five minutes away by car (15 if we walk). I love that they are so close to me and my kids and we get to spend lots of time with them. Your mom (and her house) sound just lovely. 🙂

That’s so awesome to live so close! Even though my mom is only about 25 min away I still want her closer!

So sweet. My parents have moved out of my childhood home (and a few times since then) and now live all the way across the country. Makes me sad!

I know how it is to live far from your parents since we used to. But whenever you do get to visit it makes it all the more special!
