The other day I was sitting on the couch and Luke walked up, tapped me on the leg to get my attention and then with a big grin said, “Hi Babe!” I just doubled over laughing! I know he got that from me because I say it to him but it really made me think about those little ears listening to me all the time.

As parents we (meaning ME too) sometimes don’t understand the magnitude of being constantly watched and listened to by our children. I completely understand how easy it is to forget (especially when a certain four letter word that starts with an ‘s’ and ends with a ‘t’ slips out of my mouth). Our actions and words never cease to matter to them. They are observing, learning, absorbing and imitating. It’s made me start to think about what do I want him to see his mother doing and saying? What impression do I want him to have of how Daddy Russ and I talk to each other? It certainly has made our household focus more on verbal affirmations. To tell you the truth, I’m one of those people that always feels in need of affirmations and for some reason the more positive affirmations I give out to Luke, Daddy Russ and others it makes me feel even better about myself!

Anyways, I’m sure I’ll have a bad word slip out every now and then but I’m sure trying! It’s funny how that little “Hey Babe” sure got this mama thinking…Uhh ohh…it might be time to start spelling stuff!

Yep, the old saying “little pitchers have big ears” is so true! Next comes his being able to figure out what you are spelling 🙂
That “hi babe” was so cute! Don’t be surprised is he says it to someone else either.

I’ve had a post swirling in my head on exactly the same topic! I see little glimpses of myself in my kids all the time (for better or worse!).

When I originally told people what Luke had said on Facebook all these moms commented with similar stories! They really are sponges!!

It’s adorable that he called you babe!

I can relate–We’ve been working with our little one to say “Yes” instead of “Yeah” but I constantly hear myself say “Yeah” so I’m sure it’s confusing him. My husband just pointed out that Co says “yeah” in the exact same tone and voice that I do…haha, I guess I have to work on my politeness so he can learn too!

Oh my goodness!! That’s one of the ones I’m working on too!! And I say YEAH all the time! But it drives me nuts when I hear kids say it. He’s finally starting to get it and it’s funny because when he says yes he draws out the sssssss and sounds like a snake!! Hehe!
