Usually I am one of those sticklers that you shouldn’t decorate for Christmas until Thanksgiving has passed but as soon as November hit Luke was asking to watch Rudolph, questioning how many days until Christmas and running around singing Jingle Bells. His Christmas joy was infectious so I coerced Daddy Russ in to getting down all the decorations and filled our house with holiday cheer. There is always so much to celebrate at this time of year and for the Johnson family there is an extra bundle of gratefulness.

I’ve been trying to soak in as much holiday fun as possible and the boys, Meego and PawPaw (my parents) and I headed out to Zoo Lights last week. I have to say I was incredibly impressed! The entire park is lit up with lights and there is lots of special holiday activity including ice skating, camel riding, s’mores and more! Join me as I tell you all about the fun!

I was really grateful that my parents came to help me with Foster so I could spend some extra time with Luke. He was just in amazement! It had been raining that day but luckily cleared out for us to go. But you can tell that humidity wasn’t so good for my hair! ha!

We ran into a special character while visiting and Luke had to give him a big hug.

If you can’t get snow in San Antonio then get BUBBLES!! I think this was Foster’s favorite part! He laughed so much trying to catch them!

Did you know that when a jaguar cries it sounds like a woman being torched?! NO LIE! The jaguar started screaming when we were at it’s cage and it literally sent chills down my back!

There is a special light show by the carousel which is lots of fun. The kids had a blast dancing.

And you can’t visit the zoo without a ride on the carousel. Luke, of course, picked to ride on a reindeer.

san antonio ice skating

Luke was able to ice skate for the first time on their synthetic rink. He actually picked it up pretty quickly and loved it! Needless to say, I shouldn’t be trying out for the Olympics anytime soon.

And we both rode a camel for the first time ever!! Our camel’s name was “Buddha.”

And don’t forget to end the night roasting s’mores! You can buy a bag and roast them around the firepits that they have set up.

It was such a fun evening and I can’t wait to go again! Be sure and visit http://sazoo.org/zoo_lights/ for more information!
