Since we moved in to our home years ago my bedroom has always been an after thought – pretty much neglected with old decor and other odds and ends shoved in there. I have been wanting to redecorate it for forever but have always really struggled with the design concept. Daddy Russ and I have pretty different tastes when it comes to decor and I couldn’t figure out how to meld our two looks.

As you know I’ve been working with Lili Alessandra lately which designs the most stunning bedding, linen and more. Owner and designer, Sandra Hernandez Yedor, has become a dear friend and I knew I had to take advantage of her interior design expertise to implore her to help me with my room. She and her design team were enthusiastic about the idea (much to my celebration). We have begun the amazing journey to my new dream bedroom makeover and we’d like to invite all my sTORIbook readers to follow along from start to finish! Come on in and take a look at the BEFORE of my bedroom (in all it’s starkness) and stay with us as we transform this space into a new inspiring retreat.

THE SPACE:

Sandra informed me that my bedroom had “good bones” as they say in the design world. I have fairly high ceilings and some good angles. I had also just put in a new hardwood floor and my friend Carrie Leonard from Her Hippie Heart had just repainted the walls from a dark grey to an off-white which really brightened the room. The biggest challenges for the room was that it was fairly small and my furniture is too large for the space.

As you can see in the above picture, my large four-poster bed really over powered the room. It’s a beautiful bed but our bedroom just wasn’t large enough for it. When Sandra asked me if I would be willing to consider something different for the headboard I ecstatically said, “YES!”
hardwood floors
As I mentioned, I had just replaced our nasty carpet with hardwood floors. It honestly has been the BEST thing we’ve ever done to our house! I selected a European Oak which has been growing in popularity in recent years. It is made of a strong wood with a large grain and the color is a light oak shade. The brand of mine is LM Flooring, St. Laurent Collection and the color is Castellon.

My bedroom was originally a grey color. It was a really pretty color but it made the room super dark and small. My friend, Carrie, owns a company called Her Hippie Heart and does all my house painting (she’s phenomenal and offers lots of other services). We decided to go with Benjamin Moore’s “White Dove.” It really opened the room up and made it so much lighter.
THE BEDDING:

We then turned to my bedding. I love an all-white bed but I really disliked the current brand of linens that I had. They were of poor quality and didn’t wash well at all. I wanted to make the bed the statement piece of the room.  In my next post you can see us delve more in to the designing of the bed.

THE WINDOWS:
The bedroom also features a lovely set of bay windows which allowed a nice amount of light in to the room. Currently, I didn’t have window treatments so they looked very bare. I was excited about adding some of Lili Alessandra’s curtains to really finish off the space.
