Fishing for Letters (Kid’s Activity)

Friday, September 14, 2012

Wow! Luke is 16-months-old today! He’s growing like a weed! We’re on week 2 of Mother’s Day Out and it’s been a real struggle. He grabs on to me, starts crying and doesn’t want to let me go. It’s just heartbreaking. I end up crying in the car every time! Hopefully, it will pass and he just has to adjust. And hopefully sooner than later! Now on to brighter subjects to keep your kiddos entertained…

So pretty much everyone during childhood had these little plastic letters that covered refrigerators. There’s always something spelled out – usually I love you or someone’s name. Well, now here’s another activity for them – fishing!

Supplies:

  • Magnetic Letters
  • Dowel Rod
  • String
  • Scissors
  • Metal Clip
  • Bowl
  • Magnetic Dry Erase Board

Directions:

  • Tie the metal clip to a piece of string and then tie the other end of the string to the dowel rod creating a “fishing pole”
  • Place magnetic letters in wide bowl
  • Give child fishing pole and allow him/her to fish letters out of bowl
  • When a letter is “caught” place the letter on the white board and spell fun words!

Want to see a video of this fun activity on WOAI-TV San Antonio Living Morning Show? Then click here! One of my clients, Acorn Pediatrics of San Antonio, demonstrated it live!

This is my sTORI being written as you read. – Love, Mommy Tori
