As you know, I document basically every single “First” for Luke so, of course, I would be neglectful if I didn’t document his first trip to the zoo!

I recently made a new friend in my neighborhood who has a 3-month-old son. It’s been wonderful because I now have a walking partner and another person to go on outings and playdates with me! The day before, I decided I wanted to take Luke to the zoo so I texted her last minute and she was all in!

That morning we did the normal “get ready for an outing with a baby routine” which means a lot of hard work and me sweating before I’ve even buckled Luke in to the car. We packed lunches, made bottles, prepared snacks, sunblocked every square inch of Luke, packed in two car seats, piled the strollers in. Holy cow – I’m exhausted just thinking about it again.

Finally the kiddos were locked and loaded and off we went to the San Antonio Zoo. We had an amazing time! It’s almost Luke’s first birthday so I went ahead and purchased a membership to the zoo so we can go whenever we want. It’s very affordable and I got the option where we can take two guests in (great for friends or grandparents).

I love the San Antonio Zoo. It’s nestled in Brackenridge Park among huge oak trees so it is really pretty. Luke loved the animals – particularly anything that moved alot (for example the monkeys and surprisingly there was a bear pacing around).

I might have had even more fun than Little Man Luke! I have a weird affinity for squirrels and while walking through the African exhibit a squirrel darted in front of our stroller and went up on this ledge right next to me. I grabbed some of Luke’s crackers and after a couple minutes of working up the courage, I fed it out of my hand! Definitely my favorite animal of the day!

It was just one of those days that makes you so grateful for motherhood and life. Here’s a peek in to our day.

Enjoy and don’t forget to support your local zoo! To learn more about the San Antonio Zoo click here.
